Glass used: Highball Glass
Ingredients
- 2 oz dark rum or bourbon
- 5 oz hard apple cider
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Ice
Instructions
- Fill glass with desired amount of ice.
- Pour rum (or bourbon) and bitters into the glass.
- Top with cider.
- Stir gently.
- Enjoy while listening to History Straight Up: Season Two, Episode 4.
Fun fact: George Washington used to take a canteen of Cherry Bounce on his travels.
Glass used: Gimlet Glass
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz bourbon
- .75 oz brandied cherry syrup
- .75 oz lemon juice
- .5 oz simple syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 oz sparkling wine
- Brandied cherries for garnish
Instructions
- Chill the glass by placing in the freezer or filling with ice.
- Add bourbon, cherry syrup, lemon juice and bitters to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake until chilled.
- Strain mixture into chilled glass (remove ice if used).
- Top with sparkling wine.
- Garnish with brandied cherries.
- Enjoy while listening to History Straight Up: Season Two, Episode 3.
Fun fact: Rattle Skull is British slang for an empty-headed person.
Glass used: Beer Mug
Ingredients
- 12 oz stout beer
- 1 oz dark rum
- 1 oz cognac
- .25 oz lime juice
- .5 oz simple syrup
- Nutmeg for garnish
Instructions
- Chill the beer mug by placing in the freezer or filling with ice.
- Add rum, cognac, lime juice and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake until chilled.
- Strain mixture into chilled mug (remove ice if used).
- Add beer to mug and stir gently to combine.
- Top with nutmeg.
- Enjoy while listening to History Straight Up: Season Two, Episode 2.
Fun fact: George Washington served Bumbo to voters while campaigning.
Glass used: Rocks Glass
Ingredients
- 2 oz dark rum
- 2 oz water
- .5 oz lime juice
- .5 oz simple syrup or 2 tsp brown sugar
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Pinch of cinnamon
Instructions
- Add rum, water, lime juice and simple syrup (or brown sugar) to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake until chilled.
- Add ice to a rocks glass.
- Strain mixture over the ice.
- Add nutmeg and cinnamon as garnish.
- Enjoy while listening to History Straight Up: Season Two, Episode 2.
Fun fact: Also called the “Boozy Dark Delight” this simple beer cocktail is made with just three ingredients.
Glass used: Collins Glass

- .8 oz whiskey
- .8 oz orange liqueur
- 6 oz stout beer
- Ice
- Chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Add a few ice cubes into the glass.
- Pour orange liqueur and whiskey over the ice.
- Top with the beer.
- Garnish with chocolate shavings (optional).

Fun fact: The original versions used cognac instead of gin.

- .25 oz grenadine
- .25 oz maraschino liqueur
- Maraschino cherry for garnish

- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Add the rum, pineapple juice, grenadine, and maraschino liqueur to the shaker.
- Shake well until chilled.
- Strain into the chilled glass.
- Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Fun fact: The Poinsettia is a simple cocktail with only three ingredients.

- 1 teaspoon grenadine

- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, add whiskey, lemon juice, orange juice and grenadine.
- Shake well for 30 seconds, or until the mixture is cold.
- Get the chilled glass (remove ice if used).
- Strain cocktail into the glass.

Fun fact: The espresso martini was created to wake you up, then f**k you up.

- 1 oz cooled espresso
- 3 espresso beans (for garnish)

- Place glass in freezer or fill with ice cubes to chill.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, add vodka, coffee liquor and espresso.
- Shake well for 30 seconds, or until the mixture is cold.
- Get the chilled glass (remove ice if used).
- Strain cocktail into the glass.
- Garnish with espresso beans.
- Enjoy while listening to History Straight Up: Season One, Episode 3.
Fun fact: The martini is stirred not shaken.
Glass used: Martini Glass
Ingredients
- 2.5 oz gin or vodka
- .5 oz dry vermouth
- 1-2 dashes of orange bitters
- Lemon twist (for garnish)
Instructions
- Place glass in freezer or fill with ice cubes to chill.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, gin (or vodka), and orange bitters.
- Use a bar spoon and mix for 30 seconds until the mixture is cold.
- Get the chilled glass (remove ice if used), add a splash of vermouth and quickly swirl around the glass then discard.
- Strain cocktail into the glass.
- Twist the lemon peel over the drink to release its oils, then drop it into the glass.
- Enjoy while listening to History Straight Up: Season One, Episode 3.
Fun fact: The term “bee’s knees” means “the best” of something.
Glass used: Coupe or Martini Glass
Ingredients
- 2 oz gin
- .75 oz fresh lemon juice
- .75 oz honey syrup
- Lemon twist (for garnish)
Instructions
- Place glass in freezer or fill with ice cubes to chill.
- Dissolve honey syrup with equal parts warm water and stir until dissolved. Let cool.
- Combine the gin, lemon juice, and honey syrup in a cocktail shaker.
- Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
- Shake until the outside of the shaker is very cold.
- Get the chilled glass (remove ice if used) and strain the mixture into glass.
- Twist the lemon peel over the drink to release its oils, then drop it into the glass.
- Enjoy while listening to History Straight Up: Season One, Episode 2.
Fun fact: The Sazerac is the official cocktail of New Orleans.
Glass used: Rocks Glass
Ingredients
- 2 oz rye whiskey (or cognac)
- .25 oz absinthe (can sub Sambuca)
- 1 sugar cube (or .25 oz simple syrup)
- 3-4 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
- Lemon peel for garnish
Instructions
- Chill the serving glass by placing in freezer or filling with ice.
- Place the sugar cube and bitters into a cocktail shaker, pouring the bitters over the sugar cube.
- Add whiskey and ice to the shaker, and stir with a bar spoon to dilute the sugar cube (about 30 seconds).
- Get the chilled glass (remove ice if used) and pour the absinthe in, swirl to coat the sides of the glass and discard the rest.
- Strain mixture into the glass, leaving the ice in the shaker.
- Garnish with the lemon peel.
- Enjoy while listening to History Straight Up: Season One, Episode 1.
