Rain or Shine, Pride Shines Bright: History Repeatn’ & PRIDE! Our Story at Northport PrideFest

Not even the rain could dampen the spirit at the 3rd Annual Northport PrideFest! Amid the vibrant celebration, History Repeatn’ and PRIDE! Our Story brought their powerful pop-up exhibit to life—shining a spotlight on Northport’s rich LGBTQ+ history. With colorful photo wings and heartfelt local stories, the display turned learning into a joyful, interactive experience that entertained and inspired festival-goers of all ages.

Despite the gray skies and steady rain, the energy at the 3rd Annual Northport PrideFest on Saturday, June 14th, was anything but dreary. For the first time, History Repeatn’ and PRIDE! Our Story made their debut at the festival, bringing with them an engaging, hyper-local celebration of LGBTQ+ history.

The PRIDE! Our Story tent showcased a vibrant mini pop-up exhibit dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community of Northport. The display offered visitors an intimate look at the town’s queer history, spotlighting stories and moments often overlooked.

The crowd favorite? A stunning 7-foot-wide pair of photo wings, created by PRIDE! Our Story founder and History Repeatn’ co-founder John N. Daniello. Bold, colorful, and undeniably Instagrammable, the wings drew in a steady stream of photo-seekers—including The Observer’s very own Dave Ambro, and Northport author Greg Fox—proving that history can be both meaningful and fun.

Fox, creator of the fictional comic Kyle’s Bed & Breakfast, posed with Daniello—who developed the first LGBTQ+ exhibit in Northport—in front of exhibit panels highlighting their significant contributions to Northport’s LGBTQ+ history.

Beyond the Northport-focused materials, visitors also got a sneak peek at the full PRIDE! Our Story exhibit currently on display at the Huntington Public Library, as well as the digital version available online. Attendees expressed deep appreciation for the initiative, many stopping to personally thank Daniello for preserving and sharing these important stories.

PRIDE! Our Story has received recognition in the Northport Journal, The Huntington News, the Huntington Public Library, and has been shared in countless social media posts over the last few weeks—evidence of the growing interest and support for LGBTQ+ history.

PRIDE! Our Story has always been about honoring the past while inspiring the present and future. It’s a living project, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.

“This exhibit has been a long time in the making, and I’m both excited and humbled by all the support it has received over the last few weeks,” Daniello shared. “PRIDE! Our Story has always been about honoring the past while inspiring the present and future. It’s a living project, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.”

As the rain came down, umbrellas went up—but the spirit of Pride never wavered. For History Repeatn’ and PRIDE! Our Story, Northport PrideFest 2025 marked the beginning of what promises to be a powerful new chapter.

PRIDE! Our Story is on exhibit at the Huntington Public Library through the end of June. Don’t miss your chance to experience this empowering tribute to LGBTQ+ history.
