History Repeatn’ Brings Northport Community Together for Veteran’s Appreciation Celebration

Pop-up events company, History Repeatn’, organized an afternoon dedicated to honoring veterans and active military personnel, bringing the Northport community together in a shared moment of appreciation and remembrance.

An afternoon dedicated to honoring veterans and active military personnel was hosted by pop-up event company, History Repeatn’ and Northport’s Trinity Episcopal Church earlier this month. The event, which was free to all veterans and active military personnel, attracted over one hundred attendees throughout the three-hour afternoon session.

Kicking off the event was a special performance by the Northport-East Northport High School Choir, under the direction of teacher Brittany Nichols, who sang several patriotic songs for attendees. As each individual military branch anthem was sung, veterans and active service persons stood in recognition, resulting in a profound moment where not a single dry eye could be found in the house. The event continued with a lively performance by local band Glenn Baldwin and The Friends of Jazz, who entertained attendees with a variety of musical genres throughout the afternoon.

The Veterans Appreciation Celebration was a resounding success, due to the generous contributions of the following businesses who donated a plethora of food, drinks, and supplies to this worthwhile cause: Feed & Grain Restaurant, Del Vino Vineyards, Sand City Brewery, Intermezzo Restaurant, Coliseum Caterers and The Observer.

The delicious food and drink were served by members of the Vets Out of the Rough, who volunteered their time to make the event special for all in attendance. The Vets Out of the Rough organization provides a comprehensive golf program designed to aid at-risk veterans in their healing process. Representatives from Canine Companions, including Ravioli, a companion-in-training, were present to provide information and literature about their organization.

History Repeatn’, the organization responsible for orchestrating the event, secured all the donations necessary and rented Houghton Hall at Trinity Episcopal Church as the venue. In addition to handling the marketing and print media aspects, they also booked the Glenn Baldwin Friends of Jazz band to perform. To commemorate the day’s events, Nite Owl Promotions, a Northport-based promotional materials company, presented parting gifts to the veterans as mementos.

“From the moving patriotic songs to the wonderful food, it was a great afternoon celebrating our veterans and military. This event will hopefully be an annual event, as it proved to be an excellent opportunity to honor those who have sacrificed so much to defend our freedoms.”

- Father Andrew Garnett, Trinity Episcopal Church

Trinity Episcopal Church’s Rector, Father Andrew Garrett, expressed his sincere appreciation for the event, stating that it was “truly uplifting.” He added, “From the moving patriotic songs to the wonderful food, it was a great afternoon celebrating our veterans and military. This event will hopefully be an annual event, as it proved to be an excellent opportunity to honor those who have sacrificed so much to defend our freedoms.

There is nothing as rewarding as expressing our gratitude to our veterans and active duty members in a tangible way.” said Carol Taylor, co-owner of History Repeatn’. Pete Gallo, co-owner of the business, said, “Shaking their hands and seeing the pride in the Veteran’s eyes makes this all worthwhile.” John Daniello, third partner, added, “I love that our events bring the community together. Learning history should be fun, not stuffy. That’s what History Repeatn’ is all about.” Jess Driscoll and Jiliane Duque, History Repeatn’ event coordinators, added that the event was multigenerational, “We were glad to see grandparents, parents and children turn out to celebrate our veterans and military today.
